CHAMPIONSHIP GOLF COURSE

The concept of an inland ‘links’ golf course has often left many golfing purists puzzled at the shear contradiction in terms. Traditionally, the word ‘links’ meant the land adjoining the sea with the mainland, usually made up of sandy soils and natural, tall wispy grasses. The sort of thing we see every July on the golf course staging The Open.

Yet it seems the word, certainly in the last 15 years, has been adopted more as marketing term used to describe flat, newly built golf courses with little definition hole to hole and a plethora of staked trees. Such trees, on maturity at least, will render the golf course to classify as ‘parkland’, but as yet play no meaningful part in the golfers experience – and are unlikely to do so for many decades.

To confound those traditionalists comes a project seven years in the making - Ingrebourne Links Golf & Country Club.

Learn the latest news and work that's been undertaken on the course in the Spring / early Summer of 2024.

The North Course 9 holes opened in September 2017. With it, arguably the most authentic ‘links style’ golf experience, located away from the sea, in the United Kingdom.

In June 2020 the East course opened for play offering a full 18 hole course experience. The East course is equally dramatic with undulating fairways and greens with spectacular views into London and the South East. Similar to the North Course the holes are challenging and highly visual with many feature holes.

The brainchild behind the golf course design is Alan Walker, former Captain of the Professional Golfers’ Association and member of the European Institute of Golf Course Architects. Walker’s lifelong experience in the game as both a PGA Master Professional and Golf Course Architect gives him a unique perspective on golf and golf course design. Ingrebourne Links is a completely different experience from any other course you will play and we are sure it will be a round of golf to remember.

READ OUR REVIEWS

We decided to play Ingrebourne Links after watching some golf social media influencers who are members there and the footage of the course always looked fantastic, we were not disappointed. It’s a very modern golf club, very nice club house which towers above the course. There was a starter on the first who enthusiastically gave us the history of the profession of the course to date and also future plans. The condition of the fairways was amazing, you could easily be forgiven for comparing them to some of the best links in the country.
